Installation Guide: Kidde Detect Alarm - Model CUACFEX

⚠️ Safety First: Turn off power at the circuit breaker before beginning installation. Use a voltage tester to confirm power is off.

Tools & Materials Needed

  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Wire stripper
  • Voltage tester
  • Mounting screws (included)
  • Wire nuts (included)
  • 120V AC wiring with junction box

Installation Steps

1. Prepare the Mounting Location

  • Choose a ceiling or wall location at least 4 inches from corners.
  • Ensure the junction box is securely mounted and power is off.

2. Connect the Wiring

  • Strip 1/2 inch of insulation from each wire.
  • Connect black (hot) wire from the alarm to the black house wire.
  • Connect white (neutral) wire from the alarm to the white house wire.
  • Connect yellow/red wire for interconnect (if applicable).
  • Secure connections with wire nuts and tuck wires into the box.

3. Mount the Alarm

  • Align the alarm base with the mounting bracket.
  • Twist clockwise until it clicks securely into place.
  • Install the two AA backup batteries.

4. Restore Power & Test

  • Turn power back on at the circuit breaker.
  • Press the test button until the alarm sounds.
  • Confirm voice alerts and LED indicators function properly.

If your alarm keeps beeping, follow this reset sequence to clear error codes and restore calm:

  1. Power Down: Turn off the circuit breaker for the alarm circuit.
  2. Disengage: Twist the alarm counterclockwise and unplug it from the ceiling connector.
  3. Remove Batteries: Take out both AA backup batteries.
  4. Discharge Memory: Press and hold the test button for 15 seconds to clear residual alerts.
  5. Rebuild: Reinstall batteries, reconnect the plug, and remount the alarm.
  6. Restore Power: Flip the breaker back on. The alarm should chirp once and remain silent.

If beeping continues, check for loose wiring, expired batteries, or end-of-life indicators.
